Yesterday the veggie seller came to my house bringing ikan patin (pangasius). Aha! I already read recipes about ikan patin at sajian sedap. There are at least 3 recipes I got: asam pedas ikan patin, gulai ikan patin, and gulai tempoyak ikan patin. They are all sounds good. I didn't know whether idfb accept asam pedas or not, is asam pedas a gulai/curry?... I also couldn't get the tempoyak. Then, gulai ikan patin was the one!
Ingredients:
1 big ikan patin (pangasius), cut into 5
2 Indonesian bay leaves
2 lime leaves, thorn
2 cm lemongrass, white part only, bruised
400 ml thin coconut milk
100 ml thick coconut milk
salt to taste
oil for sauteing
lime from 1 lime
Spices to be ground together
8 shallots
5 garlics
1 1/2 cm turmeric, toasted
4 candle nuts, toasted
1/4 tsp white peppercorn
2 cm ginger
Methods:
Wash the pangasius under running water until clean. Rub with salt and lime juice. Set aside for 10 minutes.
Heat the oil. Saute the ground spices, bay leaves, lime leaves, lemongrass until fragrant.
Pour in the thin coconut milk and salt. Bring to the boil.
Add in the pangasius. Boil until the pangasius cooked through.
Pour the thick coconut milk. Bring to another boil.
Remove. Serve warm with warm rice.
So, this is my entry for idfb challenge 7
Enjoy!
