Roti wortel (Carrot yeast bread)

When I heard that one of the prizes for Idfb challenge 7 is a set of Ikea Kalas, I then remembered that I have some photos using those lovely dishes that haven't been posted here.  There they are, some of them, I used them in the roti wortel photo shoot.
I bought those dishes at Ikea Perth and they became my children's favorite ever since. So, when I went back home to Indonesia, I brought them with me. They are lovely, aren't they? So, if you, the Indonesian foodblogger group members, want to have them, please join the idfb challenge 7.  Who knows, now is your lucky time...*finger cross*

Now, about the roti wortel. This bread used steamed carrot that is processed with a little water in the blender until smooth. The crucial step that I missed was to squeeze it to discard the excess water after that. So, my mashed carrot was still watery when I put it in the breadmaker. Moreover, because I like to dissolve the yeast in warm water prior to mix the ingredients then I added 50 ml water (the original recipe didn't do that). Although that I omitted the egg white, still the dough was too wet. I had to add more and more flour to the dough (75 gr in total) ... he he that what will happen if we do not follow the recipe correctly...
I think 2 tbs yeast was not enough for this bread. It rose very slowly. I had to wait more that 60 minutes for it to rise properly. I'll add some more yeast next time.

Roti wortel (Carrot yeast bread)

Ingredients:

2 tsp (8 gr) instant yeast
(I added) 50 ml warm water

200 gr carrot, steamed, mashed with 100 ml water (me: 50 ml) and squeezed the water
75 gr margarine (I used 50 ml coconut oil)
2 egg yolks
1 egg white (I omit this)
75 gr sugar
20 gr milk powder
300 gr bread flour
100 gr all purpose flour (I used 175 gr)
1 tsp salt

200 gr grated cheddar cheese for filling and sprinkling
chocolate rice for filling
evaporated milk/egg for egg wash

Methods:
  • Dissolve yeast in water. Set aside until double in size, about 10 - 15 minutes.
  • Place egg, mashed carrot, yeast mixture, sugar, and oil into the bread bucket of the breadmachine. Pour the milk powder and flour (flour should cover all the wet ingredients). Make a well in the centre. Pour the salt in the well. Select the dough menu and press start. Watch the dough, add some extra flour if it is too wet. Leave and wait until the machine beeps.
  • Remove the dough to a floured table top. Punch the dough. Divide into 35 gr each (use a knife to cut the dough). Roll each portion of the dough into a ball shape. Put them into the greased baking sheet. Cover and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Take one dough and flatten it. Sprinkle the grated cheese/chocolate rice. Roll it again into a ball shape. Place it back on the baking sheet. Make 2 incisions on the bread with chocolate filling. Do the same for the rest of the dough. Cover and let them rise until 3 times in size. Brush the surface with the beaten egg. Sprinkle the grated cheese for bread with cheese filling.
  • Bake until golden brown.
  • Enjoy!
